Vertos’ mild® Procedure Recognized for Offering Novel, Effective and Safe Option for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Patients

ALISO VIEJO, CA– Vertos Medical, a medical device company committed to developing innovative, minimally invasive treatments for lumbar spinal stenosis, won the ‘Medtech’ category at this year’s 2017 High Tech Innovation Awards by OCTANe for its mild® procedure technology. mild® is an FDA-cleared procedure that has been used to treat lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) in more than 20,000 patients in the United States. Its high safety and efficacy have been demonstrated in more than 12 clinical studies.

OCTANe, an Orange County-based accelerator organization for life sciences and technology companies distributes the honor to those who have demonstrated exceptional leadership while developing new technological advancements in their respective industries.

“Orange County is one of the top areas in the country for medical technology innovation and we are honored to receive the High Tech Innovation Award for 2017 given the large number of outstanding companies in the region,” said Eric Wichems, President and CEO of Vertos Medical. “We are grateful that OCTANe has recognized the importance of the mild procedure in treating the many patients currently suffering from lumbar spinal stenosis that are looking for more minimally invasive treatment options.”

More than two million U.S. patients are treated annually for LSS, a degenerative, age-related narrowing of the lower spinal canal which causes compression of the spinal nerves that can lead to increased pain and discomfort when a patient is standing or walking. The vast majority of patients choose low-risk treatments that have very limited proven long-term effectiveness. The mild® procedure addresses this unmet need by offering a clinically validated, low cost, low-risk interventional pain therapy that treats the stenosis and provides long-term symptom relief.

Vertos’ mild® procedure uses specialized instruments and a patented X-ray visualization method to remove small amounts of bone and tissue through an opening about the size of a baby aspirin. The procedure is done in an outpatient setting and requires no general anesthesia, no implants, and no stitches.

Now in its 24th year, the High Tech Awards is Southern California’s premier awards program celebrating achievement within the regional tech and life sciences industries.
