On Air: Dr. Larry & Dr. Aman Discuss the mild® Procedure on Radio Show WIKB 99.1 FM

Dr. Mansoor M. Aman, an interventional pain physician from Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was recently featured as the “Ask the Specialist” on WIKB 99.1 FM’s radio show “Did You Know…with Dr. Larry.” The weekly radio show provides its listeners with health tips and tricks, with the featured episode as part of Dr. Larry’s current health series promoting “How to achieve a better back and ultimately better health.”
Dr. Aman, double board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine, discusses the interventional pain specialty and its focus on lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS), which is a degenerative, age-related narrowing of the spinal canal. Dr. Aman’s practice focuses on pain management, including patients with LSS. In this interview, he explains symptoms and traditional treatment methods for LSS patients, such as epidural steroid injections (ESIs) and open surgery.
The highlight of the episode features the mild® Procedure, introduced at the 30-minute mark. In brief, mild® stands for minimally invasive lumbar decompression, which removes excess hypertrophic ligamentum flavum, to help remove a root cause of LSS, not simply masking the pain. Throughout the course of the interview, Dr. Aman provides an overview of the mild® Procedure, statistics, and 3 case studies of his patients. Although the complication rate for the mild® Procedure is low, as with most surgical procedures, serious adverse events, some of which can be fatal, can occur, including heart attack, cardiac arrest (heart stops beating), stroke, and embolism (blood or fat that migrates to the lungs or heart). Other risks include infection and bleeding, spinal cord and nerve injury that can, in rare instances, cause paralysis. This procedure is not for everyone.
